Welcome to the Riverside Federation

Small schools: providing opportunity; delivering challenge; building respect

I am delighted to welcome you to the Riverside Federation website. We are two small schools where both staff and children work closely together. Hilgay Riverside Academy is the larger of the two schools with three classes and Ten Mile Bank Riverside Academy has two classes.

Our schools foster a family atmosphere which is reflected in our School Families. These are made up of children from each year group led by our Year 6s – the Family Leaders. The children work in their families to earn Family Points for exceptional behaviour, effort or achievement and the Family Cup is awarded weekly to the family with the highest number of points. The children have other opportunities to be in their families such as eating together at lunch time, family council and working together on special days. Our children are given opportunities to lead and represent their peers as members of the school or as Worship Ambassadors at Hilgay.

At the Riverside Federation, we are thrilled with our creative curriculum where strong links are made between subjects in our topic work and themes are enhanced by visitors into school or trips out of school. English and Maths are important subjects for the future success of our children but here at the Riverside Federation we ensure that all children have a broad experience at school, providing opportunities for children to be successful personally, socially, and academically in a variety of areas.

Our staff work hard to deliver challenge to the pupils in academic subjects and beyond. Our pupils rise to these challenges with determination, perseverance and resilience. They embrace new challenges and know that it is okay to make mistakes, ask for help and try again! These challenges include everything from learning new spelling rules, to painting a portrait, to playing Ultimate Frisbee or abseiling on a residential trip!

It is important that we fully prepare our children for the next stage of life and this includes building their respect for other people and the world around them. We are proud of how respectful our children are. They learn about different religions and places; recycle; consider the feelings of other people and much more.

I hope you enjoy your visit to our website and look forward to welcoming you into school.
